Air Force & Space Force: fund it through AF COOL.

AF COOL can fund your certification, including your exam, books, and fees, through AFVEC, often at no out-of-pocket cost, up to a $4,500 lifetime maximum. The government pays an approved vendor directly. Here is how to set it up.

The short version: Build an itemized invoice with us (tuition plus the exam fee), create an educational goal and a funding request in AFVEC, and get your supervisor's approval. AF COOL funds up to a $4,500 lifetime maximum, and your credential and vendor must be AF COOL-approved. Plan ahead: requests are generally submitted no later than 30 days and no earlier than 60 days before your course start.

Who qualifies

Air Force and Space Force enlisted members with access to AFVEC (the Air Force Virtual Education Center). You generally need a 5-skill level in your AFSC, no active UIF or Control Roster status, and a current fitness test when you apply. Officers are not eligible. Space Force Guardians use the same AFVEC process. AF COOL stands for Air Force Credentialing Opportunities On-Line.

Step by step

Five steps through AFVEC.

  1. Get your itemized invoice from us

    Enroll in your boot camp and ask us for an AFVEC-ready itemized invoice. AF COOL requires the exam fee to appear on the invoice, so we list your tuition plus the PMI exam fee (and the exam simulator, if you want it).

    Contact us and we will send the invoice with PM 4 Life listed as the training vendor.

  2. Get your PMI application approved

    For PMP, CAPM, or PMI-ACP, complete your PMI eligibility application and save an approved-application screenshot showing your name and date. You will upload it in AFVEC. Application support is included with every boot camp, so we will help you get this right.

  3. Create your educational goal in AFVEC

    Log in to AFVEC and create an educational goal for the credential you are pursuing. Your supervisor must approve the goal within 7 days, or it auto-deletes and you start over.

  4. Submit your funding request in AFVEC

    Create a funding request and enter the details:

    • Testing center: Pearson VUE
    • Training vendor: PM 4 Life, LLC
    • Upload your itemized invoice, your PMI application screenshot, and any orders (TDY or permissive)

    Your supervisor approves the request, then it routes through the base education office to the purchasing agent for payment.

  5. Get funded, pass, and report

    Monitor AFVEC until payment processes. AF COOL and PM 4 Life will both confirm once it is paid. After you pass your exam, take your passing notice to your base education office to close out your educational goal.
